Dublin
Ireland

The craic is real. Dublin's pub culture, literary heritage, and warmth of its people make it one of the most welcoming cities in Europe. Yes, it's expensive โ€” but done right, it's worth every cent.

๐Ÿ€ What to Eat + Drink
Full Irish Breakfast
Sausages, rashers (bacon), black pudding, white pudding, eggs, grilled tomato, and soda bread. Non-negotiable.
Irish Stew
Lamb or mutton with potatoes, carrots, and onions. Slow-cooked comfort food. Find it in a proper old pub.
Boxty
Traditional Irish potato pancake โ€” half grated raw potato, half mashed. Served with smoked salmon or beef.
Colcannon
Mashed potato with kale or cabbage and lashings of butter. Soul food at its most Irish.
Guinness Stout
A good pint of Guinness takes 119.5 seconds to pour. Taste the difference here versus abroad.
Irish Whiskey
Jameson, Bushmills, Redbreast, Teeling. Ireland produces world-class whiskey โ€” try flights at The Teeling Distillery.
Smoked Salmon
Wild Irish smoked salmon on brown soda bread with cream cheese. One of Ireland's finest simple pleasures.
Soda Bread
Dense, slightly tangy Irish bread leavened with baking soda. Order it toasted with butter at every breakfast.
โ˜˜๏ธ Local Tips
โ—† Dublin is expensive. Budget ~โ‚ฌ60โ€“80/day for food and activities. Book museums and attractions online to save on entry prices.
โ—† Book Kilmainham Gaol and Book of Kells weeks in advance. Both are consistently sold out and cannot be easily walked into.
โ—† Temple Bar is fine for one evening but massively overpriced. Drinks in nearby pubs on Dame Street cost half as much.
โ—† Cobblestone in Smithfield is the real deal for traditional music. Show up after 9pm on Friday or Saturday. Free, no tourist trap.
โ—† The DART coastal train is one of Europe's best urban rail journeys. Get a Leap Card for cheap travel. Howth is a must.
โ—† Pack a waterproof layer โ€” always. Irish weather changes every 30 minutes regardless of season. This is non-negotiable advice.
โ—† "The craic" means good fun and lively atmosphere. Locals will tell you the craic was mighty if a pub night went well.
โ—† Guinness genuinely tastes better in Dublin. The freshness and pour technique differ significantly from exports. Savour it.
